Wine Wednesday – Norton Reserva Malbec 2006 (Revised)

I reviewed this wine back in July and since then have had it a few more times. Right now, Costco is having a wine sale via coupons they hand out at the door. With coupon this wine was $10.19. That’s way down from the over $15 I paid (see below) in July. The coupon sale runs through 11/29 so do check it out.

Anyway, we served this to guests over the weekend. We opened 2 bottles and they were absolutely horrible. La Jolla Dad can drink just about anything but he poured his out. See original review below and change of rating…..

“Originally, I wasn’t going to review this since I paid over $15 for it at Costco but I see that it can be bought for less online, so maybe you can find it cheaper somewhere like Snooth which has it listed at $11.64, plus shipping probably. That’s a great website, by the way. It even pairs recipes with the wines.

La Jolla Dad is primarily a red wine drinker, so we drink a lot of Malbec. These wines are usually priced into our “drink at home on a random weekday” budget. The Norton Reserva gets better as it sits. It has a Wine Spectator rating of 90, which it deserves. Keep an eye out for it.

Winemaker’s Notes:

‘Very toasty, offering showy mocha and spice aromatics, but there’s also plenty of flesh, with lush raspberry, fig and plum notes that follow through on the long, polished finish. Drink now through 2010.’ “

Rating:  :)   Downgraded only one because I am wondering if the batch at Costco was a one off?  It wasn’t at all due to our storage. Thoughts?
