In the interest of keeping it real, I thought I’d write about a wine we bought and really TRIED to like. I is $9.69 at Costco. We love wines from Australia, typically, and especially blends like this one. However, we bought 2 bottles and had a hard time with it. Perhaps they were stored improperly.  There was an acidic taste that just wouldn’t go away.

It’s a blend of 70% Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon 16%, Malbec 6%, Petit Verdot 6%

Winemakers notes:  “The 2007 Memsie red is a vivid ruby colour. The nose exhibits black currant and raspberry aromas. On the palate there are rich, dark berry flavours highlighted by some savoury spice with aniseed characters and smooth chalky tannins. The wine is balanced and has generous length complimented by a lingering finish. Best drinking between 2009 – 2012. It is an ideal match for pasta, lean red meat dishes and cheese.”

Have you tried it?  What did you think?  It does get good reviews.

Rating:  :)   Leave it on the shelf, it’s too expensive to cook with but maybe we can be convinced otherwise.  We didn’t think it was undrinkable, but I can think of many others bottles I’d grab off the shelf first.

I wish I could try any wine now but its just tiny sips with the tiny bean in there. Miss the wine SO much. Following from MBC followers!

Totally agree. Bought this at my favorite local SF wine shop, based on the staff endorsement, not to mention the Parker and Tanzer endorsements — and the thing’s a dud! Even at that price point! Thin, uninteresting, and devoid of anything but a kind of acidic, curranty, cherry flatness. A couple bucks more gets you the Ball Buster (shiraz/cab/merlot, instead of shiraz/cab/malbec) — the same Tanzer rating, a higher Parker rating, and a much higher Me rating.
