Hip Mamas Can B.Y.O.G. (Bring Your Own Gown) To Labor And Delivery!

B.Y.O.G. is another product that I wish I had known about before La Jolla Girl was born. Wow. Unfortunately, a lot of photos were taken of me in a drab, standard hospital gown. YOU can avoid this (or help someone else to). Read on……

The idea for B.Y.O.G. was born after realizing the need for a labor and delivery gown for hip mamas who don’t want to abandon their personal style or modesty in the delivery room. I was certainly not feeling my best physically after delivery, and remember being very humbled by the entire experience. I had a C section and needed extra help. It would have been nice to have another layer of confidence provided by a very cute maternity gown. I’m positive the gown would have been the talk of the maternity ward.

The momprenuer behind B.Y.O.G., Andrea Santini, is now a San Diego mom! She kindly sent me the Havana Rose print (right photo) to take a peek at. This gown was seen on Tori Spelling in “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood”. Tori’s not the only celebrity seen with B.Y.O.G. – see the celebrity gallery here.

I have to say, I’m impressed. The cotton is soft and the style is functional. It’s almost like you could walk out on the street wearing it because it’s so cute. Yes, it lacks the open backside that most standard hospital gowns have. Instead, there are snaps down the back. I LOVE the hot pink ribbon on the Havana Rose. The ribbon is detachable, if you like.

The MAJOR benefit (in my opinion) is that the sleeves snap open to enable breast feeding. I remember the awkward exposure trying to breastfeed in a hospital gown and jockeying blankets around to make sure everything was covered. Not that they cared, but I had a constant stream of nurses coming in and out.

The gowns also come in their own reusable bag and are 100% cotton and machine washable.

I would definitely suggest buying more than one gown even if your hospital stay is short. Because nursing is so easy in the B.Y.O.G., I would have certainly worn it while lounging around the house in the early days probably with a pair of comfy leggings.

I just had my 2nd boy in June and when I look back at those first pictures of the 4 of us for the first time, I HATE the ugly, green, unflattering gown I’m wearing. I feel like I should print those pictures in black and white to improve them a little.

The gown I love would depend on what baby I’m having next…if I knew it was going to be a boy, then Blue Lagoon. If it’s a girl, then I’d like Cherry Blossom!
