Here Comes The Sick Season
by Abby Lacey
So fall and winter are most notably when we all catch something. Between the changing weather, the kids back to school, the stress of work, the family obligations with the holidays – its no wonder that we get overwhelmed!
What’s your best bet for avoiding illness? Some of the answers are obvious – lots of sleep, regular nutritious meals, and minimizing your exposure to others who are sick. Stay home if you have a tickle in your throat!
Too late? Check out some of my favorite products for treating symptoms:
- Oscillococcinum – great for treating symptoms of the flu. Take it as SOON as you feel symptoms.
- OnGuard Essential Oil Blend by doTerra – a rich and warming blend you can apply topically, diffuse, or take internally. Added bonus? It smells like Christmas (according to my niece).
- OnGuard Protecting Throat Drops - better than Riccola!
- Peppermint Essential Oil - if you have a fever or muscle aches, apply peppermint topically to help get some relief. Add it to a bath with epsom salts to relieve aches and get some relief from congestion.
- Eucalyptus Essential Oil – if you’re in need of sinus relief diffuse it in the room you occupy. If you need something more direct, add it to some oil/lotion and rub it on your chest as an all natural version of VapoRub. Add peppermint for an extra boost. (Watch for sensitivity in children 8 and under – it can irritate young skin.)
Thanks Abby for sharing this information! I actually used Oscillococcinum last year with success. For more information, here are Abby’s contact details. She’s happy to help!

Also, San Diegans have an opportunity to meet Abby at Kid Ventures on November 19th. You can bring your kids. They can play while you have coffee and learn about how to use essential oils. Here’s a link to the Twitter Invite. You don’t have to be on Twitter to RSVP. Kid Ventures is awesome – everyone will love it.
