Clif Family Winery is the Wine Wednesday theme for today. Last week, I posted solely about the winery itself, because I loved reading about their environmental efforts. I also have eaten my fair share of Clif Bars and LUNA bars. Our Trader Joes has a big display of them.
I enjoyed The Climber 2006 Red Wine, but The Climber 2008 White Wine is my favorite. I might be biased, however, as I’m currently on a white wine binge. The Climber 2008 White Wine is a blend, but definitely tastes like a Sauvignon Blanc. I am not the only one that likes it. Check out these accolades:
Wine Specator: 87
Food & Wine Magazine: California’s Top Wines for $15 or Less
Connoisseurs Guide To Wine: 87 Points, Good Value
Blend: 88% Sauvignon Blanc, 4% Muscat, 3% Riesling, 3% Chardonnay, 2% Chenin Blanc
Alcohol: 13.4%
Winemakers Notes: “This refreshing white blend offers aromas of ripe melon, grapefruit and pear on the nose. Wonderful flavors of ripe citrus, together with a sweet bright floral mid palate make this a great food wine, while is balanced acidity carries the fruit flavors for a long finish.”
The wine is 100% stainless steel fermented. It did not go through malolactic fermentation so that the purity of the fruit could be enhanced. La Jolla Mom readers know what this means from a chardonnay post a few weeks ago. The suggested retail price is about $14. It’s really good value especially since Clif Family Winery has such a focus on supporting farmers that are moving toward organic and sustainable farming. As I mentioned before, Clif wines can be found around San Diego at some Albertsons, Del Cerro Liquors, Windmill Farms and soon Jimbo’s. More locations to come.
OR I saw on Clif Wines Twitter page @clifwine that there’s 1 cent shipping this week should you like to buy the wines online!
Rating:
It’s always nice to write about a wine that’s good for the environment, my wallet and my palate. I’m going to also see where I can find it in La Jolla/San Diego near my house and I’ll let you know. As I mentioned last week, I received this wine as a sample to try.
