I ran into Bevmo in a major hurry the other day. I had no time to look and didn’t have anything particular in mind so I asked for a recommendation. The guy stocking bottles in the Cabernet Sauvignon aisle said “uh, this one”, turned his back, and didn’t follow it up with anything else. So, I bought two bottles. He was right, it was very good. It was drinkable within a few minutes of opening the bottle which makes it an excellent party wine.
Winemakers Notes: “Dark black with red hues, this wine is full-bodied with rich flavors of chocolate covered cherries, ripe plum, cassis and spice. The influence of aging the wine for 18 months in new American oak imparts subtle hints of vanilla and nutmeg that yield to the dominant fruit characteristics, ending with a long elegant finish. Accessible now, this wine will continue to age gracefully.”
I paid around $22 for it at BevMo. The Connoisseurs Guide gave it a 90 rating. The Hess Collection Winery also practices sustainable farming and is among the first ten wineries to receive certification for the Napa Green Winery program.
Rating:
Great value for money. There are only 11 left at La Jolla BevMo as of this writing but I’ll keep my eye out for it. They sell out of this.
