I haven’t been able to get over to San Diego Wine Company recently. I went the week before Christmas and am so glad I did. I forgot how fabulous their deals on wine are. It’s not a big place, but they have a knack for stocking good stuff. I bought so much wine that I can’t remember exactly why this one wound up in the cart – probably because tons of people I know love Pinot Noir and it’s reasonably priced at $12.95. I bought several.
Oh and it’s a Wine Enthusiast Editor’s Choice and got an 87 rating from Wine Spectator.
Winemakers Notes: “The Sherwood Estate 2007 Pinot Noir is produced from selected parcels of grapes grown at our Sandy Creek vineyard and other sites in Marlborough.
The fruit was harvested between the 4th and 20th of April in excellent condition. Upon arrival at the winery the fruit was de-stemmed and gently tipped into open top fermenters. Yeast was added to initiate the ferment after a five day “soak” period. The cap was hand plunged three times a day and the juice spent an average of 16 days “on skins”. Malolactic fermentation and oak maturation for two months was completed prior to blending, fining and bottling.
The 2007 Pinot Noir displays ripe, sweet, plum notes with an edge of complexity on the nose. The palate is rich and round supported by fine grain tannins.
An excellent match for most meat dishes.”
We drank SO MUCH WINE in the 10+ days surrounding Christmas that my major indicator of this being a hit is that my non red wine drinking family members went out of their way to pour this for themselves. Plus, it was good straight out of the bottle which makes it another fab party wine.
Rating:
I will definitely buy this again. For sure.
