OK, so I know I’ve been little heavy on the Luna but this…was…good. I knew it was going to be good so I was anxious to drink it. I haven’t had a bad Luna wine, as you can tell, whether it was sent to me complimentary or purchased myself. This one was gratis, but normally retails for about $40. We love both the Luna Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese, which are not typical Napa Valley wines. The fact they are all so good, is a tribute to their handcrafted, artisnal techniques. We’re headed to Napa (at least that’s what La Jolla Dad keeps saying) soon. Luna is one of the vineyards, I’d like to visit.
Winemakers Notes: “Our 2006 Napa Valley Merlot is an intense ruby red. The nose is filled with scents of tangerines, roses, and tobacco. The mid-palate is a tightly integrated mixture of blackberries, plums, and leather. Fine-frined tannins and great acidity hold the wine together as the finish melts into earty cocoa and cassis. This Merlot will be at it’s peak from 2013 through 2016.”
So I imagine how good it’s going to be in 3 years if it was good now. I poured it for some family members who enjoyed it. After they left, I happily drank the rest with several pieces of See’s candy. That’s a knock out combo – perfect fit.
Rating:
Keep an eye out for it. Drink it now or exercise patience, if you like. Let’s revisit this review in 3 years when I’m sure it will be at 5
.
