Kale Pesto Recipe (I Promise it’s Good)

Post image for Kale Pesto Recipe (I Promise it’s Good)

by La Jolla Mom on March 16, 2010

This recipe is courtesy of my mother, who got it from a vegetable vendor (no doubt organic) at the Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market.
As you know, Kale has numerous health benefits.  It’s very high in antioxidants, considered to be anti inflammatory and have anti cancer properties.
I admit, I was skeptical but genuinely pleased by the end [...]

Here’s the very simple recipe along with nutritional information from the Whole Foods website:

Post image for La Maison du Chocolat Cocoa Powder

by La Jolla Mom on January 23, 2010

This cocoa is so good, it makes a difference in almost any recipe.
This is my last tin, I think I got it in Tokyo, so I was a little bit sentimental about opening it. I have no idea when I’ll be able to get more.  I needed it to make the POM Pomegranate Chocolate Cupcakes [...]

If you’re looking for a dessert to take to a holiday party or just love pumpkin, these squares are a healthier alternative that don’t taste healthy.  I saw this recipe on the Whole Foods website on a day I had time to bake, but did not feel like going to the stores. Oddly enough, I happened to have [...]

Changing Current Straw Cups To Thermos FUNtainers

Post image for Changing Current Straw Cups To Thermos FUNtainers

by La Jolla Mom on November 13, 2009

There is nothing worse than a sub par sippy cup.  I lost a digital camera to one that leaked in my purse.  Therefore, I’m picky when it comes to sippy cups that La Jolla Girl uses.
I bought a Thermos straw cup in Hong Kong that looks similar to the FUNtainer.  In fact, I thought it was [...]

Post image for Thanksgiving 101: The Safest Way to Thaw A Frozen Turkey

by La Jolla Mom on November 12, 2009

According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, there are proper ways to thaw a frozen turkey without exposing you or your guests to unnecessary bacteria.  They suggest 3 methods:  in the refrigerator, in cold water, or in the microwave.
